“We spent two nights inside the Serengeti canvas — waking to the dawn chorus and watching a breeding herd of elephants graze fifty paces from our deck. The lodge marries raw African wilderness with effortless, unhurried luxury.”

The year turns, the herds
follow.
The Serengeti runs on rain, not on a calendar. Two windows matter most here — the dry season, when everything gathers at the water, and the calving months, when the plains fill with newborn animals.
Calving on the plains
The herds drop their calves on the short grass to the south, and the predators follow them. The centre is green, the light is soft and the plains are loud with new animals.
The long rains
Afternoon storms, empty roads and the best light of the year. The grass stands high, the birdlife is at its loudest, and the lodge is quiet.
The dry season
The plains burn gold and everything gathers at the permanent water of the Seronera. Prime predator country — lions on the move, leopards in the riverine forest — while the herds push north.
The herds come back
The short rains turn the centre green again and the migration moves south through the park. Clouds build through the afternoon and the plains fill with wildebeest and zebra.
